Solved can't get volume icon back in sound tray even after following instruction

New Member
i looked at archived forums and tried to follow these instructions:
1. right click start orb and choose properties
2.go to notification area and tick Volume icon in System Icons
problem-volume box is shaded in and i can't tick the box, so i lokked at another answer and found another step:
3. go to taskbar and untick Lock the Taskbar then repeat step #2
problem- the volume icon is still shaded in and i can't click on it

any help would be aprecciated, thanks!
