wmp & wmc not picking up individual songs

WMP (and subsequently WMC) are not recognizing individual songs that are in my Music folder. When I open "Music" they are in the folder but when I go to Library in WMP and try to reset folders to monitor etc. the individual songs don't show, only albums. Why would this be? I have created playlists with these songs and they played fine; I just can't seem to get them recognized in WMP automatically.

Hello Hupp and welcome to the Vista Forums.

Did you try to add the songs manually. Also check the box "Add Media Files To Library When Played" in the WMP options under the Player tab.

Also click in the Options under the Library tab, the Monitor Folders tab and check My Personal Folders option, then click Advanced Options in the same Add To Library window, which folders the WMP has to monitor and add the content to the library.

I have done the monitor file thing but the problem seems to be that the individual songs are in the music folder but don't appear in the music folder that is the drop down on that options screen. I think that that is the problem. It is almost like I have 2 music folders; one that I can play the songs and open them and another music folder that WMP monitors. Crazy. Thanks.
