Hi.
I have a problem with 32 bit Vista.
I have no sound!
The machine is a Dell XPS 435 MT and comes shipped with 64bit windows which is not suitable for the software i run.
Sohave re-installed with 32 bit Vista. No driver/hardware issues in Device manager and everything would appear fine.
go into the sound properties and playback devices and lists only the one device which is HDMI which i believe is my graphics card.
We have a couple of these machines which are the exact same spec apart from the 64bit and 32bit OS and the other is still in 64 bit. comparing the two side by side.
the 64 bit one works fine.
The differences are:
1. 64 bit one has the realtek HD audio manager in control panel which the 32bit one does not.
2. the 64 bit lists two playback devices HDMI and realtek, the 32bit only lists HDMI
3. 64bit lists Realtek and HDMI in the device manager under sound the 32bit only lists the HDMI however there are no errors for any devices or drivers.
I have tried the latest intel installer as apparently it is intel integrated 7.1 chip. I have also tried installing the latest realtek hd codec and installing severally times as also suggested on this site.
I am really baffled by this one, and really hope i dont have to go out and buy several pci sound cards to fix the issues on these machines with the audio.
Dell said it is not possible to run 32bit on these machines which is rubbish, i have managed to overcome most problems with the install apart from this one. this should of been the easiest of problems.
