Ditto here. I ran through some of the tweaks for performance on this site two days ago. My first thought was I did something there. But then I noticed this post. I installed the lastest update from Vista on Saturday as well. I have an Inspiron E1705. Vista Home Premium.
Okay so I managed to sort my problem and thought I'd post how I done it incase it helps anyone else.
I had downloaded/deleted multiple different drivers trying to fix my sound so I'm guessing they may have conflicted with eachother so I took a chance and deleted every driver installed after the date my comp was made.
I then deleted the speakers from the device manager, rebooted my comp and scanned for hardware changes (again in device manager). Once the speakers reinstalled I just updated the drivers and all fixed.
I bought some 2.1 Hannspree speakers and I had trouble with getting them to work. So I read some forums and nothing helped. So I went to device manager and uninstalled my realtek Hd and then reinstalled them. That got my small speakers to work but not the sub woofer. So I went to support and help and typed in speakers it told me to go to windows media center.
1. Go to the "Start orb" to find WMC.
2. Scroll up to "Task" then click on "settings".
3. Click on "General" this will take you to other options
4. Click on "Windows Media Center Setup"
5. Once here you can go to Speaker setup and follow the instructions from there.
