hi, dont know if this has come up before in the forum
basically i plugged in my headphones into my cousins laptop jack port thingy and vista popped up with a notification near the clock saying somethings being plugged into the jack port
this doesnt come up on my laptop though. whys that?
i have a fujitsu siemens amilo p1505 (or something like that) laptop intel dual core t2050 1gb ram etc...using REALTEK HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO sound or something
by default, it is supposed to notify you of any device being plugged into it. when did this start happening....have you recently installed any driver/software updates from microsoft update or the maker of you device
i didnt know about this notification thing on vista existed to be honest. i only saw it on my cousins laptop yesterday and made me kinda figure why it doesnt appear.
it hasnt being coming up since ive had windows vista
other notifications come up such as installing new hardware etc or you have updates but only when i plug headphones in that notification doesnt come up
i updated the sound card drivers last nite to see if this pop up comes up but it hasnt
Certain mini jack sockets have an additional contact that can sensed by the Motherboard when you insert a plug into the socket. This can be used as an example to switch off the main speakers when you plug into the socket.
It may be that your Motherboard does not have this contact connected.
It may also be that the signal is used to physically disconnect the speakers, as would be the case with non computer applications E.G. sound systems, but not setup to trigger the operating system
If this is not physically present you will not get the pop-up as there will be no signal to be sensed.
You may want to check the specification of your laptop because I have known of these being present but not activating due to mechanical failure.
