I am running Vista Ultimate 32 bit. I have an Intel DG965WH Mobo and I am using the onboard audio which is IDT/Sigmatel. My problem is that if I go to Control Panel > Sound, and if I try to change any options it does not let me. I have a 5.1 speaker set up and a Logitech headset plugged in, and both show up on the screen but if I try to change the default device, configure speakers, or even just disable the devices nothing happens. When I go into the properties of each component and change things in the options there and press Apply > Ok it goes back to the sound menu and the changes did not occur. I am now stuck with all my sound coming out my headphones and do not know how to change this. I want to be able to have my speakers as default, but sometimes switch over to my headset late at night so im not cranking 5.1 sound at like 3 am while playing Warcraft.
As for what I have tried to do to fix this, I did do a lot. I went to Intel's download center and got the newest drivers for my sound, installed them, and they came with this IDT Audio Control program which also does nothing for me. Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers also got me nothing. I was searching previous posts on somewhat similiar issues and saw a website that had a bunch of random files on your PC that could be corrupt and cause problems, but none of those files appeared to be on my system. Also I went into the CMD and put "sfc /scannow" and let that run and it came back with no problems. Also as a note, I noticed a thread about WMP causing some sound issues, and I used to use WMP until I randomly would get crashes when trying to open songs so I have been using winamp since then. Any help would be appreciated, and I will check back with this post frequently to update. Any required information just let me know and I will get it ASAP. Thanks for your help and your time.
