How To Access Soundcard?

Unforchantly my knowledge of computers is limited and I cannot solve this problem alone, I hope someone can help! Today I downloaded a program to help record sounds that my computer plays. (Audacity). Unforchantly, I cannot select the correct sound drive to record to. (Its wants to try and make me record straight from my microphone! Not what I want! :/ (It only comes up with the following options:

Microphone
Microphone
CD Audio
Line In

which are of no use to me. Note: I have the "show disabled/disconnected" boxes ticked.

I dont know what soundcard I am currently using. How can I find out?

Welcome Shadow!

A few things will help. First, what would you like to have it create sound from? This may not even be a sound card issue.

To find out things about your sound card, you have some options:

Method 1:
1) Click the Windows orb in the lower left corner to bring up the Start Menu.
2) Click "Control Panel"
3) Select "Hardware and Sound" (if you are in Classic View, double-click "Sound" and skip to Step 5).
4) Select "Sound"
5) The first gray line under each device name in the "Playback" and "Recording" tabs give you the sound device being used by each.

Method 2:
1) Click the Windows orb in the lower left corner to bring up the Start Menu.
2) Click "Control Panel"
3) Click "Hardware and Sound" (if you are in Classic View, double-click "Device Manager" and skip to Step 5).
4) Click "Device Manager"
5) Near the bottom of the list, expand "Sound, video, and game controllers"
6) Your sound card will be displayed there

Method 3:
1) Click on the Windows orb to bring up the Start Menu
2) In the white "Search" bar, type "dxdiag" (no quotes) and hit enter
3) Click the "Sound 1" tab. This should tell you your primary sound output, with the source (i.e. sound card) in parenthesis.

There's another way, too, but I can't remember at the moment.

In Device manager you're sound card there listed under the model name and number .

Most software in the first part when you set it up it will give you the Drop down arrow window to choose the setting;s for you're sound card is set at .

the software should allow you to go in it's options for default sound direct or you're sound card should be listed in the software application don;t forget to hit apply when done then ok a lot of people foret to do this if you don't the setting's won't be saved after you leave the application.
