No audio on ati radeon 2600xt

I install ATI Radeon 2600xt 256mb to Dell 531 AMD 5000 x2 with Vista premium. I am using HDMI cable connect to DVI output from video card. Video is fine but no audio on my Sony Bravia 46" LCD. Could you help me out? I am just using this to play AVI video through my LCD, no fancy at all:mad:

I didn't use the adapter or dongle. I use straight cable with DVI and HDMI end. I bought this card from ebay and it didn't come with any others.

I had tried that also and disable my on board audio. I still get no sound. But on the LCD screen lower right corner with speaker, I open and test the sound and I can see the audio wave up and down.

Ah. That's probably going to be the problem, then. Mine came with those adapters, which seem to be a bit special. Could have to do with the type of DVI end it has (you can see a lot about DVI formats on the wikipedia entry). Still, try the instructions I sent you. They should work, one would think. As you can see, there are extra steps one must take to get the audio.

If it doesn't:

This is an example of the product (though I'm not 100% sure that would work): Shoptopia.com.au - ACTIVE DVI TO HDMI ADAPTER - Computers >> PC Accessories You'd need to make sure what you got kept the audio line open, which is unlikely in a straight conversion cable.

I'll look around and see if I can find a way to purchase what came with my card.

I did try the instruction you gave to me but still have no sound. So, I will buy the adapter directly from ADM to see if it help. May I PM you if it is still a problem

I am wonder if I insatll a audio card, will it work. Anyway, I went directly to ATI web site and ordered a adapter. I will let you know about this. Hope this will solve the problem. Thanks

Oh good. I just found it and was going to post it. Hopefully that works for you.

If you install an audio card, this will still work. Unfortunately, you will get no benefit from your sound card, because the computer will use the 2600 sound card as the active one. Things to consider.

i have the same problem i think
it says no audio output device is installed; i have tried to enable it but it says failed and now iv uninstalled but i dont know how to install it again.

To that, I have no idea. I guess you could unplug the card and plug it back in (though that may not help). The ATI forums might be your best bet.

I have the ATI adapter with new HDMI-HDMI cable came in yesterday and now the sound is working properly. But sometimes the video is shifting on the lower part of the Sony 46" LCD while watching AVI video file. Does anyone is having this problem with this? Video card, the adapter or the cable is defect? Today I will try to swap DVI-HDMI cable without the adapter to determine the cable or the card or adapter 1st the card 1st.

Are you sure you're outputting the video in the appropriate format (720p, 1080i, 1080p)? Not doing so can cause problems with video.

Did you ever have this trouble before you started sending the audio through? Something to consider is that the audio is being sent through open bandwidth; if you are pumping something that needs all the bandwidth (very unlikely, but maybe possible), it might cause something funny to happen.

Without an equivalent system (I don't have mine hooked to a tv), I really can only give random suggestons.

I set my PC ouput to my LCD at 720p with resolution 1366x768 (which my sony LCd is capable of). No, I didn't have the problem at start, playing just AVI video file for few minute then it split or shift the picture at horizontal of the screen on and off. It happens only a few seconds. I didn't do anything special just for viewing video file.

I went home for little bit and adjust the video size on ATI control to 1280x768 with 59Hz and seem it help. But I don't know why, if I set it to 1360x768 60Hz. My screen doesn't look right because video to everything wider on horizontal !!! I will try again when I get home and will update.

Honestly, that doesn't make much sense to me. Could be one of those things where one company's 60Hz is another's 59Hz. There had to be a reason they put all those odd options in CCC. Looks like you found it.

Sorry, I made a mistake about previous comment. There is a 1280x768 at 59Hz, but I refer the 1280x720 at 60Hz to get rid the shifting frame. If I put 1360x768 30iHz (no 60Hz), the shifting problem come back, but the picture is very smoothly.
However, the motion of both resolution (1360x768 and 1280x720) cause the ghostly image. Maybe my LCD problem, I am not sure about this.

I guess there's only one way to find out. Tweak and tweak, then tweak a little more. When you find what you like, keep it and write it down somewhere so you don't forget how to make it look that way if something bad happens to the computer or TV.
