Windows Vista Audio => Digital and Analog

Hey guys :)

First of all: This is my first post here and I´m really happy to have found a site that might help me with my problems. ( I really love your tutorial section ;) )

Now my problem:

I was used to be able to use the digital as well as the analog output of my soundcard at the same time. (Soundcard is an onboard one with the AC´97 sound chip).

But now running vista I can only use one.

Either I choose the analog output to be "standard" (then it has the green tick) or the digital output..

Only the one chosen works then.

Is there any way to get both working simultainiously?

I'm glad you love the tutorials. Feel free to post one of a tip you have as well.


I do not think you can have both. It is pretty much a one or the other option. You can go into you "Realtek Audio Manager" in the Control Panel (Classic View) and make audio quality adjustments in the advanced options.

Hmmm alright...

And do you have any idea of a way to make a shortcut for switching it?

Like when i press this button its switched to analog and that its switched to digital?

Because its quite a lot of clicks to change it in the control panel...

Maxi,

The easiest shortcut I know how to use is to have the volume icon in the Notification area of the taskbar. You can right click it and click "Playback Devices".

Well i have no idea if this will work BUT give it a try :
If i choose analogue output and start a game listening through my headset i can alt+tab out to windows, activate digital output and then start to listen to sound/music in my digital reciever, then alt+tab back to the game and voila! sound in both analogue and digital outputs at the same time!
