Solved Can't Install latest Java Update: Error Code 1603

Hi!
That's what's happening.
I have tried internet research solutions to no avail. Finally had to come ask for help from you guys!

I uninstalled the previous Java update (jre-7u71-windows-i586.exe) I had on my laptop. Then tried to install the latest update (jre-8u31-windows-i586.exe). It would start to install, then I would get error code 1603.

I tried to reinstall the older update. It would not reinstall. Same error code 1603. I guess I am currently without Java.

That sums up the basic problem. Can someone tell me how to fix this?

Hi, and thanks for the reply.
I went to the Java Uninstaller page and after clicking on it, it tells me either Java is not installed on my laptop or else it is disabled.
It said go to Java Control Panel and enable it. I looked. I don't seem to have a Java Control Panel.
I am now believing Java is nowhere to be found in my laptop. So I try a fresh Java install. But still no dice.
I still get error 1603.
The only exception was an earlier version of Java I tried to install (ver7 u75). Then I got a message that it failed to install because of some "key" not being there (or something). I didn't understand.

It's almost as if something is preventing Java from accessing my laptop. Could it be I need to uninstall my antivirus or my malwarebytes (or something else) before Java can be allowed to install? I'm just guessing here...

Well, congratulations!! You have solved the installation problem of Java!

I uninstalled Microsoft KB2918614 and the tried to install Java. It worked.
Not sure about something in the installation of Java, though. I installed (jre-8u31-windows-i586.exe) and in it, is a blurb asking me if I want to install Ask.com as a browser. I would normally click No. But it was bypassed and I didn't get a chance to say No.
So I don't know if it installed along with Java or not. It might show up somewhere but not sure if or where.

The other question I now have is: Do I need to reinstall Microsoft KB2918614 now that its' absence has let Java in-I presume Java would continue working with KB2918614 reinstalled? Would it?

Or perhaps a more important question would be: What does KB2918614 do? Is it important and needs to be reinstalled?

It is a security update and is important. Make a system restore point, install the update. You can easily remove it with system restore if you have unwanted problems.

I believe I read that for version 7 if you select to not install the ask toolbar it waits awhile and starts a download install so you might want to give it sometime and check to see if it installed. Ask is borderline malware so you want to remove it.

I just turned on my computer and some Microsoft updates were being automatically installed. Including KB2918614.
So it is installed again.

I will wait and see if Ask.com pops up. If so, I will uninstall it. I presume it will be easy to find and uninstall. Although it may not be easy to find.

As for setting up a System Restore Point....I don't know exactly how to do that. I thought Vista did that automatically anyway. Not sure.

I've never utilized a System Restore Point so it is unfamiliar territory to me. I need to learn how do do it, definitely.

Control panel > Programs and features. You should be able to see and uninstall ask from there.

Sir I have the same problem as you have, but u have got your java now, but mine is getting same error code 1603,
i have win 7 32 bit, and java update is
[h=4]Recommended Version 8 Update 60[/h]please if anyone can help me than i would pray for you : )

Please check whether cmd.exe is still functioning well. (Run -> CMD.EXE). If not fix that problem first
The installer needs cmd.exe at the end of the routine to complete the installation well.
A copy of the CMD.EXE is often residing in one of the directories under C:\Windows\winsxs (do a search via windows explorer starting from that directory). I did a Ctrl -C of the latest version and copied it to windows\system32 directory.
This did it for me, but there might be plenty of other causes. So definitely worth examining.

You saved me from the hell.....
I solved this problem from your solution i guess the computer detected file infected virus so, the vaccine deleted this file.
