Messenger Live not connecting

Hi all
I am New and a novice

Today when trying to get to my sign in page on Windows Live messenger using the desktop shortcut that always worked before I get a message -

"The application has failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect."

I have recently got the new version of Messenger which moved me to Skype. However this only happens on my Laptop Vista but my Pc on XP can sign in to Windows Live Messenger and Skype without any problems.

Why?? :(
