Clone / backup

Went and done (very long) clone last night of the machine drive and it kept popping up messages that gave me an option to skip - which if I didn't it would go nay further.

However it eventually ran but I see from the results and another message to say that the last backup did not complete properly.

So I am dong something wrong but what?? Was using Macrium Reflect to do the backup which I thought was best done as a clone.

To back up I would use the image backup. I used Macrium. Now I also like Easus ToDo free.

edit: I see it was just updated to 3.5. I have 3.0 so I'm going to check it out myself.

Hey thanks WHS Yeah mate I did view this one before I first used Macrium but went back as you said to see what steps I might have missed or done in the wrong sequence - whatever. (I am by nature too impetuous and want things done yesterday lol!!)

Well the first thing that struck me was that I didn't do the disk bit first - I went straight into dragging and dropping the material I wanted to clone to the destination disk (an external 2.0 USB Seagate 500GB on the Vista machine).

It started up fine but then I got those skip messages every so often. Now this happened when I cloned my main machine to an internal 1TB Seagate from the original 1TB Seagate - so I guess I have done the wrong thing there also.

Now my next decision is whether go back and format (if it will not just overwrite) one of these cloned disks and start all over again - it's no bother as long as I get it right - to see if I can do it properly this time.

Now one last thing I also system image using the Windows feature on my main 7&8 machine as opposed to imaging or cloning with Macrium and like you I boot my machines every morning unless I leave them overnight scanning with whatever (fires, hefty power bills and wear and tear on components reasons) when I am at home. Now you also brought up setting the image to do so each day and I missed that when I was doing the cloning but thought it a great idea. I do like to be thorough and precise when it comes to stuff like that and it it takes away the need to manually do it now and then plus I am guessing again done on a regular basis it's like scanning in a way it doesn't have to do so much each time does it?

So I have bored you long enough - I am going to set that up - thanks for making it that much clearer.
