Solved Problem re-installing ESET NOD32

Vista Home Premium

Have had NOD32 installed 18 months and today could not start it. When clicked got a popup stating that the side-by-side configuration was incorrect. Per ESET's recommendation I uninstalled it. During reinstallation I get the following:

As a matter of fact I get the same message for approximately 50 Registry keys. I have no idea what sufficient access is as I can access each key via Registry Seeker or Regedit.
I cannot ignore more than 50 registry entries and when I cancel, installation ceases. Ideas??

Thank you very much for the replies. Before doing anything I rechecked my status as administrator and in fact was. However, because you both pointed to an administrator issue, instead of "creating" an administrator account I wanted to be certain that I was in fact and administrator. Went to http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/80938-user-account-control-uac-elevate-privilege-level.html downloaded/merged the registry entry. Restarted and installed ESET NOD32 to completion.

When I went to launch the tray app I got the same popup that started it all.

(one of the problems with the instruction is that the log cannot be accessed...only through the Security Center can that be done).

So I was able to get it installed, just can't use it. I have absolutely no idea what this problem is but I do know that uninstalling/reinstalling won't fix it.
Any ideas??

Why this happens, I do not know. I just know that it does happen on ocassion.
If it were my computer, I would consider a reinstall, or restoration to factory specs, after a back up of my stuff. Although, there are some here that can offer more assistance, the link above shows how difficult this problem is.

Thanks rich. I read that thread earlier and luckily [for now anyway] the only time this has appeared is related to ESET NOD32. I can do without it and only hope that this is an isolated event.
Troubling though, is that System Restore has been problematic will not retain restore points past 4 days.
Vista doesn't have a repair function vs. complete reinstall as XP did, does it?

I am more concerrend about the System Restore than the Anti Virus.
Why not try to download Microsoft Security Essentials, which it the most highly recommened AV in this Forum

If nothing else, E.S.P. is working well today. Installed Essentials just prior to uninstalling NOD32.
The SysRestore problem started when I deleted a partition (Ubuntu) and the GRUB installer remained and would not boot into Windows as the MBR was corrupted. Got that resolved but have been unable to depend on SysRestore since. I will look into your suggestions and start another thread if your suggestions don't resolve the issue as the install problem for NOD32 was solved.

1. I verified that I could create a manual restore point.

2. SVC was on Manual, as was RPC Locator. Turned both to automatic and started the services. Do I need to repair the WMI components?

3. Had 8 restore points (primarily the ESET install attempts) and they used 34.7GB. Disabled then re-enabled SysRestore to clear the restore points. Performed a manual restore point and 'vssadmin list shadowstorage' shows 98.56MB. Why were the 8 points that I deleted averaging 4.39GB ea. when the newly created point is only 98MB? [Maximum allocated space is 45GB]

No I think you should be ok, now. Just watch it and make sure it continues to work properly

The significant part of the response is that it is not suppose to happen. That being said you had Side by Side problems, You could have been picking up things twice, rather than once in the Manifest.

Interesting read. I'll periodically check the size of each restore point assuming that SysRestore will be cooperating.

I can't say that the topic of Manifests makes a great deal of sense to me. But it did make me check the Event Viewer and not that I have any idea that there is any correlation, but since June 24 (the day the problems began after the partition deletion) there have been 439 logged errors (Event ID 3038). Something to do with Search. Any relationship between that error and potentially picking things up 2 or more times?
