Hello!
I am one of the very few members not to use Revo, and so you can compare my view with everybody else's. Sorry, there is no right and wrong...there is only balanced argument!
System Restore only keeps records of certain parts of the hard drive. A corruption on a system file it can work miracles on, but it can also leave a massive mess - removing half of the program's files from certain folders, but plainly ignoring the files and registry keys from other locations.
A program's uninstaller is carefully designed by the developer (I for one code mine carefully) It is true that some programs leave configuration settings behind, just in case you change your mind about uninstalling. What will these do? Not a lot, actually. Just sit there idle until used or hard disk formatted. They are not a problem, may cause good in the future (???), but really are nothing to worry about.
I don't want Revo poking around, and guessing at what I want deleted!
If an uninstall epically fails, and this is very rare on modern computers, I try to uninstall again. If not, I reinstall the application, and try to cleanly uninstall. If this still fails, I use the
Microsoft Windows Installer Clean up Tool to remove what the installer is trying, but failing to, and only the stuff intended to be uninstalled.
This is just how I do things...
Richard
