WLMM has stopped working

Hi,
I'm getting an annoying error message and crash when attempting to view a slideshow in windows live photo gallery. It will play and merge about 6 images then freeze/crash with the message "windows live move maker has stopped working"

It says i'm missing a .CR2 codec, which I believe is a RAW codec for canon EOS cameras, and I don't use a canon camera. I cant find a link to this codec, would this sort the problem?
I have uninstalled windows LIVE essentials and reinstalled.
It is a HP g70 laptop, running Vista premium

Hope somebody can help, as its getting frustrating now:zip:
