trouble installing windows live messenger on vista

Hi
I am haveing trouble installing the 2011 windows live messenger on my windows vista. I downloaded the direct download for messenger and that worked but now it is telling me to upgrade to the 2011 messenger version before it lets me sign in.
Is there a direct download for the 2011 version of windows live messenger?

Ok then go to control panel, programs and features and uninstall messenger.
Then install it again.

It may be underd windows live essentials.
If it is you may, also, uninstall other features which have to be installed again or you may be given the choice to just uninstall Messenger.
