Acer eRecovery not completing reboot - stuck at 13/29

Hi,

I'm trying to restore my Acer Aspire to factory settings and have run the eRecovery Management tool using the recovery discs I made when I got the laptop. This seems to work fine up until the time it reboots when it gets stuck on process 13/29. I have tried re-running this a couple of times but gets stuck at this point each time. Any ideas?

Have you made any partition changes to the original set up? When you do the Factory Restore, you must make sure that you have two partitions( C:system and D: Data).
The hidden partition should be left alone.

It would appear that I do still have 2 partitions although I recently tried to move a load of files from C: to D: to create some space on the C:. Do you think this could be linked? Could I just potentially just copy these back from D: to C: to fix it?

Sorry about the basic questions but a bit new to all this!!

Hi Paul,
What type of files you have transfered? are they all data files or any system folders(Pics, doc etc).
If you know what files you have transfered,yes you can put them back and try. Could you also post the snip of your disk management.
Don't worry about asking questions, members here are very helpful and try their best to help others.

At work at the mo so will double check when I get home this afternoon, but I'm pretty sure it was data and system files.

Will post details of the disk management at the same time (if I can remember how to access it!!).

If you have the System Restore point before you made the changes,try the SR and your system files will be back in their place, if not you have to move them back manually.
While you do the Factory Restore remove Internet connection and remove Anti Virus program as well.
To access DM, right click Computer->Manage-> Computer Management-> Disk Management.

Foolishly didn't set a System Restore point so will cut and paste back over. Have learnt so much over the last 48 hours I won't be making that mistake again!

Will post back soon with the disk management details, then try the restore again without the internet connection, etc.

Really appreciate the quick and helpful responses!!

Hi,

Have moved the files back to C: drive and have also accessed Disk Management but think I must be doing something wrong as there is nothing displayed?

Screenshot is attached. The attachment also show the stage the reboot has got stuck at (13/29) along with the associated cmd message.

Will now give the system restore again without the anti-virus and internet connection and let you know how I get on.

Hi,
Get the DM screen shot without trying the FR, could you be able to abort FR and start the system as normal?
To get the snip, start-> all programs-> Accessories.

EDIT: I just want to see your hidden partition is intact, if it is you could also try Factory Restore by pressing Alt+F10 buttons at the same time without using the disks you created.

Hi,

I can start the system as normal but it brings me back to the same place e.g. Process 13/29 eRecovery.

To get the snip what do I go to after Accessories?

Go to start->Accessories-> right click Command Prompt copy and paste
sfc /scannow
You may have to do this few times to repair the system files, you have to reboot in between.
Are you using the laptop to post here or using another PC?

Nothing seems to be straight forward!!

Have run it 6 times and can't get past 71%. Still no sign of the snipping tool. Currently posting from my iPhone.

I'm running out of ideas, if you can transfer any important data to an external storage and get hold of any vista disk and do a clean install with the product key at the bottom of your laptop, this is only a last resort action.
OR
Get any vista retail disk from any friends and do a Repair Install, the instructions are here:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html
I'm sure someone else might chime in but you have to be patient.

First backup all your data to external storage.

If you can not start your PC to backup, you could copy & paste your data.

Than Try a full clean & full format in command prompt.

1) Boot DVD, & Press Shift+F10 (for command prompt)
2) Boot DVD, & Command Prompt at Startup - Windows 7 Forums
(for command prompt)

Type in command line
If you have no partitions on your HD.
DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK # (win HD)
CLEAN ALL
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
SELECT PARTITION 1
ACTIVE
FORMAT fs=NTFS
ASSIGN
EXIT
EXIT

If you have partitions on your HD.
DISKPART
List Volume
SELECT VOLUME # (win VOLUME)
DELETE VOLUME
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
ACTIVE
FORMAT fs=NTFS
ASSIGN
EXIT
EXIT

Thanks for all your help yesterday brummyfan, much appreciated! Don't think I know anyone with the necessary disc but eke.- have a look on the net.

Theog - Wow a lot of information there! Will take a good look at it tomorrow. Have backed up data and can start from recovery disc so will start with the clean and format in command prompt.

I am having the same problem as you paul and have tried all the suggestions on here.

Did you find a solution and fix the problem in the end?
