Solved Office 2010 not installing in Vista

Hello folks

This is my first post here. My vista home premium 64bit seems to be kinda messed up. I am trying to install Microsoft Office 2010 but getting an error everytime ""Error 1935 - HRESULT: 0x8007054F" I have deleted my previous office version to install this and now I am stuck with nothing. Please help.

Oh one other information that might be helpful, couple of days back the vista restart loop bug hit me. After a regular windows update my system kept on restarting until I used a recovery disk to delete a particular file through command prompt. Since then I cannot update my windows (it just gets stuck on "searching for updates") and the "turn windows feature on/off" box is always blank. Also, sfc \scannow function does not work. Just thought it might be helpful to you guys in providing me with a better solution.

Download and use cleaner.
Then try to install Office
If no success try in safe mode.

thanks for the reply Richard! what cleaner are you referring to? i have tune up utilities 2010 and frequently clean/defrag registry using that. i'll try the safe mode and see if that works

This is different that what you have. It cleans all the left over remnants of past installs etc.

Dont use that to clean the registry. Vista does not need registry cleaning and it may hurt.

It's possible Office 2007 (which I assume is the prior version you tried to uninstall) did not properly uninstall and is causing this problem. Here are procedures to make sure it is properly uninstalled if the normal process didn't work right: How to manually uninstall the 2007 Office system if you cannot uninstall it by using the "Add or Remove Programs" feature. Also, if that doesn't work (or it's another version of Office and the procedures don't apply), try installing Revo (the free version) at: Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems and see if Office shows up as an option to uninstall and, if so, use the Advanced Procedure to try to do it (but be certain when choosing what to delete that you include ONLY items you can identify as definitely associated with Office - if in doubt, leave it alone).

Although written for Office 2007, the following article almost certainly applies equally to Office 2010 and is specifically for that error and HRESULT code: Error message when you try to install an Office program: "Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly component". If you have trouble with the .NET Framework installations or re-installations, post back and we'll try to assist you (this can be slightly complicated and can sometimes take a bit of tweaking to get it to work properly - things not fully covered in the article but that we can provide other references and instructions to assist you - perhaps the following). Make sure you are using the correct versions for your version of Vista at all times.

If that doesn't work, try just installing the most recent versions of .NET Framework and see if that helps: For 3.5, Download details: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5. For 4.0, Download details: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Standalone Installer). When done, run Windows Update to get any updates for these products that have been released since the programs were made available.

Then once .NET Framework is fixed and updated and prior versions of Office are completely removed, try the installation again.

Thanks for the reply Lorien. Sounds helpful. I do believe somehow my NET Framework has gotten corrupted. Anyhow, lets go step by step. I uninstalled MS Office 2007, ran CC cleaner and still I can see some files that seem like Office 07 in my Add/Remove programs list. Such as, Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 SP2, Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components, MS Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies and MS Office Small Business Connectivity Components. Should I manually uninstall these?

CCleaner isn't the way to go to remove prior versions of Office (that's not its function) - the suggestions I posted are the way to do that (the Office uninstall procedure and Revo - if they show in the Add/Remove programs list, then I would definitely try Revo on each of them - and check to see if Revo also shows Office 2007 and, if so, do that as well). If you were using BCM, make sure you backup the database first if you want to keep it.

I tried the Microsoft "fix it" and it said it could not detect a supported software. I downloaded Revo and uninstalled the office 07 outlook components and stuff. I will now try installing Office 10 and let you know how it goes. However, Revo's uninstall list only showed Microsoft NET Framework 1.1 installed. But my add/remove programs list is showing I have NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and Framework 4 Client Profile installed. Is this normal?

My Revo shows all of those programs in its list. I don't know why they don't show up on yours. Perhaps this is somehow related to the .NET Framework problem (if that is, in fact, involved in this issue as I suspect) - though I don't know precisely how or why.

Agreed, Ccleaner does not remove a program. If a program cannot be installed, it may be due to remanants of other installs and other garbage that may be the problem. This may be helped with ccleaner.

Yeah I also think somehow my NET framework files got corrupted. Last week I tried installing GTA 4 and it wouldn't install - gave an error related to NET Framework 2 possibly being corrupted. Office 10 is being installed, let's see if it works. Otherwise I think I'll need to reinstall NET Framework.

I looked into your link for installing NET Framework and I couldn't follow the Framework 2 reinstallation procedure since it is built in with Vista. I am downloading Framework 1.1 and will reinstall that. I don't have much idea on these things so please help me so that I don't completely mess up my system!

This is how I had to do it myself as the normal process didn't work. It looks complicated but if you follow the guidelines step-by-step, the hardest part is typing the entry correctly (it took me more times than I care to admit).

Forget Framework 2 and 3 for now - well, actually, we'll address them as follows (since as you say they are built into Vista and need to be checked and repaired differently):

Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories / Command prompt and right click on command prompt and click run as Administrator.

Type sfc /scannow and enter and let it run. It will scan and try to fix some of your system files. Hopefully it will complete with no corruption it could not repair (if there is such corruption post back here or try to analyze it to find the problem file(s) using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228. Try to attach the report (you may need to copy it to your desktop before it will permit you to attach it) here so we can see if they can be repaired with good copies from the installation disk (unless there are too many).

While in Command Prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and enter and let it run. It will want to schedule itself to run at the next restart. Answer yes and then reboot to run the program. It will scan and try to fix any corruption or bad sectors on your hard drive and mostly remove that as a potential cause.

Then we'll check to see if that helped by trying Office again, and if not, try re-installing the other two Framework versions. Actually, we will first try to repair them. Go to Programs and Features and right click on each in turn and click Remove/Change. It will bring up a screen that provides and option to repair. Select and run that for each. You may need to reboot after each or after both - you probably should even if not required. Then try Office again.

If it' still a problem, we'll need to re-install (Framework or Vista, I'm not sure yet but the file from SFC will help). Post back after these steps and we'll see where we are.

Thanks for the help Lorien! I have already downloaded and installed framework 1.1. During installation it said "compatibility issues with IIS (or something) services on the platform". I gave "run program" and it installed without a hitch. Then I uninstalled frameowork 3.5 SP1 and reinstalled 3.5. I just finished uninstalling framework 4.

Now, maybe I forgot to mention, my sfc scannow function stopped working since that day I faced the update problem. I tried it just now, gives the same error "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation." What do I do now? Should I go ahead with framework 4 installation? Or should I check the disk for errors?

Also, I just tried updating my windows, it gives an error "Code 8000FFFF Windows encountered an unknown error". Any ideas?

One more thing, I can't find framework 2 and 3 in my Add/Remove Programs list.

I followed this link and it helped me fix the update issue. Now I can update windows and its being downloaded as we speak. The "turn windows features on/off" box has been fixed too. I'm installing updates and will try to install MS Office after this. Hoping it might work. I'll keep you posted here. Framework 2 and 3 don't appear because they aren't installed per se - they come with Vista. They can neither be added or removed. SFC helps to check if they have problems. If so, it generally means Vista itself needs to be re-installed - depending on the error (there are some less drastic options that sometimes will work - but I need SFC to check this).

It's possible you resolved the issue with that fix, so I'll hold off on anything further until you tell me what's happening or what happened. Don't forget to re-install Framework 4 at some point since you uninstalled it earlier.

I was finally able to run sfc /scannow and it came up with this

"windows resource protection found some corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them."

The details are in the CBS.log and I am trying to attach that so you can see what's wrong or which files I need to replace. Ok, the max size limit for a txt file attachment is 1 mb. The CBS.log is around 7 mbs. How can I send it to you?

Windows update installed Framework 3.5 SP1 and some other updates for 1.1. However, it failed to install four fixes. I will download Framework 4 pretty soon.

Read the article on SFC for how to parse the CBS.LOG into sfcdetails.txt and then copy and save that .txt file to your desktop and attach that (it won't be anywhere near that size).

I have installed Framework 4 successfully. But MS Office still won't install. Giving me the same old error.

This Scan shows a lot of Corruption on your Computer could you please Run the scan again and upload the CBS Log afterwards

If Shadow wants the CBS.LOG, you should be able to zip it first and then send the zipped file. I'd also like you to include another sfcresults.txt file as well.

Like he said, it shows a great deal of system file corruption (more than I've seen in a very long time) and another report might show what if anything was repaired by the two scans to see if there's much improvement (multiple scans sometimes help when one or even two don't do the trick). I asked him to take a look given my impression of the report to get a second opinion as I suspect we may need to do a system repair/upgrade or a clean installation (or you might know it as a restore to factory conditions).

Do you have a genuine Vista Installation Disk (or do you know anyone you can borrow one from that's the same bit-size - it doesn't need to be the same version)? This will offer us the much better alternative if you can get your hands on one.
