Recovery partition "D" erased by accident. What to do?

So what can a person do when Recovery partition "D" is deleted on Windows Vista? Is that the end? There must be a way to handle it.

Since the PC is still running okay, can I create my own restore files?

Or since they all com e from the factory the same way, can I download one?

I need some really help on this one

I would download and use macrium reflect to save on a separate hard drive. It is the best way, in any case.
Files can be saved separately or as an image of the hard drive, using the above.

You know what? It installed just fine. I was amazed.
So I asked the local computer guy, and he says that the locked partition is a Gateway thing, not a Vista neccessity

This may normally be possible, but if the recovery partition and data has been erased, there's no way to recreate it (yes, the partition itself can be re-created this way if it was removed, but the recovery partition data cannot be restored). And without a recovery partition with the complete recovery partition data, you cannot make your own recovery disks - I mean re-installation recovery disks and not just the repair recovery disks which can be done with 3rd party software - (if the computer provides that option and assuming it hasn't already been used as some only allow it to be done once).

While doing an image backup as suggested above is an alternative (I do this in addition to having the disks), it will not work in all cases. For example, if you need to restore because of an infection and the infection is also on the backup, you can only restore using the disks. I would be more comfortable myself with recovery disks. You can't fix the lost recovery partition information and process, but you should be able to get the disks. Contact the manufacturer Gateway and request a set https://secure.tx.acer.com/RCDB/Main.aspx?brand=gateway - they will probably charge a nominal fee - and they are not all the same and are based on the installed hardware devices as well as the operating system (so you need the ones for your specific computer and they will need your serial number or SNID).
