MS Office 2007 install issue with Vista

I've got a Dell laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium. I recently purchased and downloaded a copy of Office 2007 Ultimate from Microsoft. When I try to install it, I get the following error:

I have tried a number of things, including the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. When I run the WICU, it doesn't show that Office 2007 has been installed, so I can't uninstall it. A tech support doc on Microsoft's website had about 6 pages of steps, including deleting certain items from the registry. That didn't work either (I had to restart my computer and go back to the last known good configuration). Any ideas on what to try next?

NOTE: I have attached a copy of the log file generated during the installation attempt.

ADDED: I have also tried this with no success (Stop and Restart the Windows Installer Service & Add the Everyone group with Full Control permissions to the Permissions list of the default temporary files folder): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2000547

Nothing I tried worked, so I ended up wiping my system and reinstalling Vista. After that, the next thing I installed was Office 2007 - Success.
