Acer OEM Disk screw up need help

I found a OEM disk on pirate bay.org to reinstall my GF's windows vista which has been hanging and such and so forth with software issues. now after 3 hours setting it up then another 3 hours with microsoft tech support i found out the disk isnt OEM but retail and its terksih. now i gota find a ACER OEM disk windows home premium before 30 days.

I thought this will be quick and easy and it turned out to be a nightmare, now shes b***in that you screwed my computer up and now not keep saying i need a new computer.

Anyone out there have an ISO for Acer windows vista OEM?

You can call Acer and tell them you lost your disc and maybe
they will send a new one. For a fee of course. LOL
I have a Vista disc for a gateway but do not know if that will work.
Also a will have to rip and turn it into a iso and do not know how to
do that.

There should be a product key stickered on the machine.

You can use that with any proper MS Vista installation disk ( during install, select the same Edition the key is for, e.g. Home Premium - it needs to be the same Edition as was originally installed ).

You will probably have to call Acer to activate. You may also need specific drivers for the Acer machine - you should be able to d/l them beforehand from Acer website, burn to cd and install as and when necessary.

called MS today they said it has to be a OEM disk not retail for the OEM key to work

i spent 3 hours on the phone with them, i think i might just put my old windows XP on her computer but, i rather put vista on it. anyone have a disk i can use?

It is very common for people to use a regular MS install dvd and the key off the side of the machine.

Usually so they can have a clean install without all the manufacturer bloatware.

yeah thats what i was trying to do till the key didnt work, and it only works with an OEM edition disk

Try to activate by phone rather than online. It has a much higher success rate for issues like this.

tried that as well and no luck, they said because its a retail disk and i have a OEM disk that they key doesn't exist and i cant get the 9 quads of numbers for activation

Very strange - I have never heard of that before.

Unless Acer is now using a different system which now requires an Acer specific install media.

The purchased Retail and OEM ( system builder) dvd's are identical.

You normally need to ring the oem ( in your case Acer ) NOT Microsoft to activate the key off the side of the machine , because MS do not support OEM pre installs.

The key off the Hard Drive itself is different - you can't use that ( unless you use the activation cert off the HD as well )

Is there a sticker below the laptop which has the product key.

For desktop it must on the body of the Cabinet.
