Hello,
I have tried everything that I could find on the net in the last week, and this is my last step before I call Microsoft. I cannot access media center on my 360.
What I have:
Custom PC 2 years old.
Vista 64x SP1
EVGA MOBO 680i 122-ck-nf68
XFX GTS 8800 640 mb
PC Tools Spyware Doctor with AV & Registery Mechanic
Original x-box 360 w/ new dashboard downloaded
D-link dir-655 router (upgraded from linksys wrt54g to see if this was cause)
My problem:
My problem started last week when I tried to hook up my 360 as an extender. It connected to my vista pc with no problem but when I tried to play an internet video, my x-box would lock up. Note: that my own pictures and videos played fine and some of the internet videos, like "news", played fine also.
Before I got carried away with diagnosis I thought I would check for updates on my pc. First, I found that my old Antivirus software was now available for 64bit OS so I dumped McAfee (hated Mcafee) and reloaded PC tools Spyware Dr. w/ AV & decided to purchase Reg Mechanic also at the same time. I ran the AV and Registery Mechanic and fixed all errors and then retried to run the videos on the MCE x-box. Now I get either "Connection Terminated" or "Connection Failed" every time I try to set it up.
On my x-box (btw, I have a WIRED x-box connection to my router) I go to System Settings>>Network Settings>>Test Pc Connection and choose my PC, the results are "Network: Connected" and "PC: Connected". I go to Test Windows Media Center and I get "Network: Connected" and "Windows Media Center: Connected". AND my x-box LIVE is also connected.
I go to my Vista Media Center>Settings>Extender>X-box 360 MCE> the Status is "Ready to use" until I try to use Media Center on my X-box then the status changes to "set up but not available".
What I have tried:
Obviously, the first thing I tried was to turn off my Syware Doctor w/ AV and to restore changes made by my Registery Mechanic. No help.
Second was to upgrade my 54mbps router to 108 mbps VISTA ready router...no help.
Then I tried all the web help stuff...too much to list but I still can't get it to work.
I did notice in "Event viewer" for Media Center that I get a ton of 301 event ID with an Error code: 0x80070005. I go to the Microsoft Technet and the 0x80070005 code isn't even listed for 301.
I also disabled the Group Policy settings, uninstalled and reinstalled MC updates, set my security settings to "public" then back to "private", checked for firewall settings (only have windows firewall) and I updated all my firmware and software.
I am no expert with this stuff and I would just like some help. Sorry for the long story. Can anyone please help???
