i don't know where to post this, perhaps there is a support forum here somewhere? i really need help!!! if there is a proper forum and a moderator would like to move my post i would appreciate it!!

i have a vista64 ultimate system. all is working fine. when i try to burn on the secondary (slave) drive the error messages i get are "searching for scsi/aspi devices" i have used force aspi, and installed the proper aspi devices. checkaspi.exe (it might be called aspicheck.exe) tells me that the aspi layers are installed but that some of the "helper drivers failed to initialize"

1. i know the drive is good. i disconnected the ide cable from both drives (they are on the same channel). i hooked up the cable to only the slave drive, changed the jumpers to master, and rebooted. the drive works fine.
2. all ide channels have dma set to auto.

3. when both drives are connected to the ide channel, with the top drive set as master (with proper jumpers) and the bottom drive as slave (with proper jumpers) the second (slave) drive will read, but will not burn!!
4. i updated the firm ware on both drives and i still have the same problem.
5. i uninstalled both drives from the device manager, rebooted and i still have the same problem.

whats going on here!! im going crazy and i would really appreciate any and all help!! thanks in advance!!

Have you tried switching the drives around on the same cable and see if you still have the same problem.

yes i did switch the cable around :-)

there is only one cable, with two ide adapters on it. two drives are (G:)(H:) on the one channel. the slave drive (h) will not burn

but when i take the cable from (g) and plug it into the second drive (h), and set the second drive(h) as master, while leaving the original drive (g) unconnected,

the drive works. so i know its not the drive thats broken.

the problem is that when the two drives (g)(master) and (h)(slave) are both connected to the main ide channel the (h) drive will not burn

Hi,

Have you checked the possibility of a faulty cable? If you have another IDE port on your motherboard that is not currently in use, I recommend that you connect each of your optical drives to their own port on the motherboard with a separate cable and set both of them to 'Master' using the jumper on the back of the drive.

since i know that both drives work, i am sure that putting each on their own channels, as master, would work too.

it is possible its just a faulty cable.......but if it isn't.....geez thats going to be a headache

ill try a new cable tomorrow and see what happens
