Media Center Has Stopped Working - x64

New Member
I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium x64.
I have a Q6600 at stock speeds, as well as an EVGA 8800GT.

Whenever I try to start up Windows Media Center, an error pops up saying "Media Center Has Stopped Working" the usual error pop up when a program crashes.

Nothing pops up, just that error message.
I've tried running ehshell.exe with no luck.

Help is appreciated.

Hi, TOwens81, and welcome to the forums.

First off, have you installed any codec packs? If you uninstall them all.

If this does not help next try a
Code: 
SFC /SCANNOW
from the CMD window and let it do its thing.

I have not installed any codec packs, with the exception of VLC media player.
Does that have anything to do with it?

I will try the SFC Scan Now command ASAP.

VLC *should not* conflict with WMC, but after that SFC if the problems still exist, then you might try uninstalling it - and if the problem *still* exists then next try a System Restore to a point before you installed VLC.

Well, the SFC said CBS log not CBS.persist, and it is a lot smaller, so look at the CBS log

Windows Explorer, by default, hides the extension of the files. You can enable explorer to show you the file extension in the options.

However, since the program asked for CBS.log, and I told you *not* the CBS.persist, I thought that made it evident to check the CBS.log file, which shows up as CBS in your explorer window.

My apologies for not explicitly stating CBS. I get so used to running explorer to show my the file extensions that I forget that just looking at it does not really tell you which is which when extensions are hidden.
