My names Alex Watson, Im making this guide to show you how to unlock AMD GPU cards for higher than possible overclocking.
AMD has a limit on what clock speeds you can achieve where nVidia virtually has none. This guide will increase the clocks on your card enabling you to overclock higher than possible.
NOTE: You dont have to go through with this. This will raise temps and will be unstable. I am not responsible for killing your card or any other component.
You MUST HAVE:
MSI Afterburner
AMD GPU
FurMark (stress testing)
THIS WILL GIVE YOU AN IDEA ON WHAT TO EXPECT.
I have a Gigabyte AMD Radeon HD 6450 1GB OverClocked Edition.
Core stock speeds: 645MHz
Mem stock speeds: 800MHz
Using MSI Afturburner or AMD Overdrive in Catalyst Control Center, I hit a limit of:
Core speed: 760MHz
Mem speed: 960Mhz
MAX TEMP: 65c
NOW I have a new 23" 1920x1080 monitor and want high framerates in games SO I want to overclock higher.
HERE IS WHAT YOU DO:
Install MSI Afterburner if you have not done so already.
Install FurMark to be ready as well.
NOW GO:
Start-Computer (Or My Computer is you use XP)-Program Files (or Program Files X86 if you use X64 OS)-MSI Afterburner
FIND MSIAfterburner.cfg
Open with NOTEPAD
Scroll down to the very bottom.
you will see
[ATIADLHAL]
Enableunofficialoverclocking = 0
AccessibilityCheckingPeriod = 0
Change the 0 in Enable officialoverclocking to 1
THEN RESTART MSI Afterburner and you should get higher clocks!!!
Now here is mine:
Previous max clocks
Core: 760MHz
Mem: 960Mhz
NEW MAX CLOCKS
Core: 880MHz
Mem: 1040Mhz
Save to a profile and check apply at startup (msi afterburner clock screen.)
Now the testing:
Here is where it gets a bit complicated
Run FurMark (if you can select the 15min 1920x1080 Burn in.)
HERE ARE MY RESULTS
Temps for previous OC @ 760/960
MAX 65c
MIN 32c
Temps for NEW OC @ 880/1040 (my limit)
MAX 74c
MIN 45c
The temps are high but I got a BIG FPS boost (30-40%)
Enjoy the higher clocks.
WAIT BEFORE YOU GO!
Important note: When raising the clocks, Have a game in window mode or furmark in 800x600 with fullscreen unchecked.
When increasing clocks look at the game or FurMark to see if any artifacts show, if they do then decrease your clocks.
I managed to hit my limit of 880/1040 with no artifacts at all
BUT
Sometimes ingame my Display Driver stops responding and automatically restarts soon after.
A reinstall of my OS (XP X64) fixed this. SO im sure it has nothing to do with my GPU.
HAPPY NEW YEAR
