Are you/he certain they are connected to the router and not through an Adhoc connection with the Asus?

What do you mean by an ad hoc connection? In terms of how we went about things, I believe he simply turned his new ASUS on and it gained connectivity.

Technically it shouldn't have, unless you mean after the passwords etc.
Ad hoc means the Asus acts as a router. Id make sure all the stuff is directly connected to his router.

What's strange is that while his printer and Macbook lose their connectivity when the Asus is asleep, his ipad almost never has that problem. And this problem is pretty much recent; things worked initially.

Yha, read that. I would get him to ensure they are properly connected. Can't hurt.

I just read something by someone who seemed to have a similar problem and he solved it by changing or fixing his router. And what do you mean by properly connected?
Thanks.

Tried the Network Adapter Trouble shooter and that seems to have fixed the issue. Problem now is a known Macbook Pro issue where it loses the network connection after waking from sleep which is not a major problem. I'll have to try some of the known fixes or maybe a Genius Bar visit will do.
Thanks.
