PC Does not connect to Network (Modem) automatically

Hi

on my Vista Home premium PC I have just got a new Wireless Broadband modem which I connected to and selected to "connect automatically" but when I start the PC it does not connect and I have to go through the "search for a Network", select the Network and connect with the security key every time I start the PC.

The modem is a Netgear CG3100D-2 BPAUS.

With the previous modem I had no problems for five years with three PC's

Any ideas what I should do to fix this, I have no idea what more info is required, if more is needed please ask and I will respond.

Did you use the CD it came with to set it up? That's usually the easiest way.

the Netgear CG3100D-2 BPAUS was supplied by my ISP and the CD that came with it was not relevant, it installed a driver for a USB wireless dongle, I have a PCIe WLAN card.

The ISP Technical told me not to install the CD. They could not fix my problem.

Since this worked with the other router, it seems the problem lies with the new router. Try asking for assistance in the Netgear forum, see if anyone there can help.

Also, try disabling your anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall, one at a time, as a test to see if any of them are the cause.

Is the Vista PC up to date? Does it have SP1 and SP2 and all updates?

I see, one useless response.

Can you do the following immediately after you power on the computer, before you search for and setup the wireless connection then again after.

Click on Start then Run or press Window key (next to left Ctrl key) +R and paste the following into the Run box, exactly as shown, including double quotes:

cmd /c "ipconfig /all > postme.txt & ping yahoo.com >> postme.txt & notepad postme.txt & del postme.txt"

and press ENTER.

A file will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the contents here. Close the Notepad window and the file will be deleted and the Command Prompt window will also close.
If you don't have a Run selection off the Start menu, see here: Enable Run Command on Windows 7 or Vista Start Menu, or How to access the 'Run' box in Windows® 8.1 - YouTube or just press Windows Key (next to the left Ctrl key) + R, or open the Modern desktop, type run then click on Run that appears.

Well, that's pretty definitive. You have no connection at all to the router after power on.

What anti-virus software are you using?
What firewall?

Does the problem happen if you do a restart or only if you power off then power on?

it happens both ways, restart and power off then power on.

I use MSE and Malwarebytes Pro.

What is the make and full model number of the PCI-E wireless card?
Have you tried uninstalling it from Device Manager then reboot and let Windows rediscover it and reload the driver?
Have you tried updating the driver?

Hi

it is made by AzureWave Technologies, Inc, the driver is provided by Ralink, I cannot find the model name/number.

I have tried uninstalling the driver and updating it, uninstalling made no difference and the Auto Update found no new drivers.

I could not find a driver online, it is difficult without knowing which driver to search for.

Can you look at Device Manager, under Network Adapters, see what it says about the card?

One possible fix would be to get a different PCI-E wireless card. There are lots available online.

the info I gave you was out of Device Manager, I have considered a different card but have to let the supplier install it as the PC is under warranty.

One last thing I can think of to try. Run Windows Repair All-In-One. Do each of the steps.
Click Start and see if that helps.
Takes awhile to run as it does a lot of different things.
