Windows 7 keep using the same static IP Address even changed to diff

Windows 7 keep using the same static IP Address even though changed to different static ip address on both dns field or set a dynamic ip address and also I unplugged a physical network interface card and plug it back the same result.

For most people Windows should be set to obtain the ipaddress automatically. I recommend that you do so. The ipaddress must match your internet source or your internet will not work.

Hi townsbg,
I do set or check the radio button which tell windows network interface card to obtain an automatic IP Address or set another static IP Address still the same result.

Hi Patomb,
By default it gets a dns ip address from isp router, however I setup a static dns ip address to the interface card and then close the interface card configuration and re-open it to double check the static ip address that I setup is there but however when I open cmd typing:

IPconfig /all it give me the same old ip address and I re-open the interface card again this time the old dns ip address re-appear.

192.168.2.x

That 192 is a router address, which is assigned by your router and not the NIC.

If you want a static IP from your router, you are going to need to assign it in your router config pages not your NIC settings.

When your computer is set for automatic it will get the ipaddress that the modem or router is giving to it. Why are you wanting to get a different ipaddress?

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command -

IPCONFIG /ALL

Post the results.

Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.
