Solved Computer sees the internet but cannot get online.

My Vista Home Premium 64 desktop sees the internet fine and no issues there, and my ipad and smartphone both see and get online fine and can go to any site, but not the computer.

I have tried about everything suggested in this forum for correcting but still no go. Have run all kinds of virus scans, flush dns, reset winsock and much more all to no avail. Pretty much stuck here and unsure of what else to try. Again I can see that I'm connected to the internet in network sharing, but no website will open in any browser and email does not work in outlook. Thanks in advance for any help!

Sure will try that. I did forget to mention that I took my computer to a local computer repair shop and they found the same issue when they got also showed as connected to the internet but no web page would work. They would have been on a different I.P. than my home one so I have a feel that this is not the issue.

Your IP configuration looks fine to me. Can you try to boot your machine into safe mode and test connectivity as some third party applications may cause some issues. May I ask, what is your Antivirus and firewall applications?

Please replace all references of Safe Mode with Safe Mode with Networking

Have already tried the safe mode route to no avail, and the anti-virus is AVG and Windows Firewall. No setting have been changed at all before this just suddenly happened a few days ago.

Are you connected via wired or wireless? If wireless can you try a wired connection and report back the results

This is a bizarre issue I must admit, I have a hunch that it may be your firewall blocking some form of communication however I cannot be for sure. As a testing purpose can you temporarily disable Windows firewall and then open a command prompt and type the following exactly:

Code: 
ping www.google.com

After the first ping please then try the following:

Code: 
ping 74.125.195.104

Please then upload your results.

Your results would appear to indicate an issue with your DNS servers.

Can you please change them for your wireless card to the following:

Primary: 8.8.8.8

Alternate: 8.8.4.4

To change your DNS servers please follow this tutorial - DNS Addressing - How to Change in Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums

Although this tutorial is for Windows 7 please be assured that the same steps apply for Vista.

Once changed please reboot the machine and then test internet connectivity

Josh......that worked!! Now that you mention a DNS issue I recall seeing something about that. One last question...the tut you asked me to check out about changing your DNS has these setting and I was just wondering if it makes any difference - also for future reference, how do you think my DNS was changed in the beginning? How can that happen?

No, not at all :).

The ones I suggested are google public DNS servers however you can use the ones that were in the tutorial. I think the problem was that the DNS servers that you previously had wasn't actually DNS servers since I could ping them but could not receive any name lookups
