This is a problem that was reported and discussed a lot 2 or 3 years go, but mine has a twist.
Equipment: ASUS U80A laptop
OS: vista home premium, 64-bit
Problem:
- network icon in systray has red 'X' over it
- Hovering over icon, message says "Connection Status: Unknown"
" Access denied"
- Right click on icon:
If wifi, shows wifi connections. I am connected to one.
If cable, shows "No connections found", but network is connected
- In Network and Sharing: network shows as "Unknown", next line says
"access denied"
Now here's the twist - this happens only for one user. The Administrator account on the computer does not have this problem. That seems to eliminate a lot of hardware & driver potential problems.
I have searched forums and tried everything I could find:
... net localgroups...
... turn off power ...
... update driver ...
... can't mess with network properties, since it doesn't
show a network...
Lots of solutions that don't work, but the situation is slightly different. Could there be something in the user profile that causes this?
Thanks,
Randypro
