Hi folks - - looking for help here with what seems to be a common problem: Vista can "connect" with wifi but won't allow me to browse - it says "local access" only.
A little background: this is my neighbor's wifi; he kindly allows me to use it. Recently he installed a new router & Comcast account. Using his password, my wife's Mac can see and use his network just fine. I can't. Status lists connectivity as "local."
FYI, I'm running Vista Home Premium 32 on a Toshiba satellite.
I've tried a number of fixes gleaned from other forums: resetting my adaptor, disabling IPv6 in several places (i.e. in connection properties and in the device manager); etc. Many offer various recipes for digging into the registries to do this or that, but I'm leery unless I know for sure that that's the right thing to do.
Any suggestions?
