Need help setting up my wireless config

So okay my wireless internet is not detected on my computer. My modem and router are both set up correctly and I talked to some tech person for some company that fixes problems with netgear routers/ect and they want to charge me 170$ to reconfig my wireless network stepup on my computer. He said it wasnt properly set up.. is there anyway I can set it up myself so I can use my wireless router without calling them back and paying 170$!! My computer isn't even showing the wireless network on my network... just my neighbors networks... I don't know why this is. I So now I can't even use my computer wirelessly on my own network. I have to plug it into the Ethernet cord on the router in my roommates room where our router is. I use to at least have a connection before I reset the router.. now only the power and internet/#1 port for my computer are lit up on the router.
