Intel 5100 AGN does not see wireless network

My wife's Sony Vaio notebook VGN CS320J (Vista 64 bit Home Premium) would not connect wirelessly on a consistent basis (reboot, drop-offs etc) I downloaded latest driver from Sony website & now it doesn't see any wireless networks (mine or neighbors) while my other notebooks Dell (vista) & Gateway (XP) see & connect fine. Any ideas?

The computer had 12.1.0.14 installed originally. Was having intermittent wireless connections issues (having to reboot, disconnect & reconnect & then connection dropping off). So after looking at some tech support entries, down loaded 12.4.0.21 & after that 5100 would not see any wireless networks. Uninstalled & went back to original-still no difference. Other notebooks one w/ Vista & one w/ XP connect fine. Did install an updated Bios from Sony support site during this time. Tried an USB network adapter IOGear with same result.

Have you tried any of the "Windows Seven" drivers?

Was that v13.1.1.1 or better? If not revisit the link above & select seven as the OS. OK?

Well you are begining to stump me now!

A few questions: -

  1. Are there any differences in the way you treat your Pc's, that is in the distance they are from the router wired or wireless?
  2. Have you noticed any "Best places to be" regarding remaining connected"? i.e. If you are close to the router or down stairs only etc.
These questions relate to the "Power" of your wireless network router etc. as this can drematically influence connectability & range (Distance from it).

Have you got any other insights as to the problem?

Most people are telling me I have a software/registry problem with this Sony
distance issues are not applicable because the other two laps are set up in the
same area
