Solved Wireless network loss of Vista Home Premium SP2

I hope someone will be able to help me here. Over the last year I started losing my wireless connection on my HP desktop running Vista Home Premium SP2. I know my D-Link DWA-542 RangeBooster router is working since the other computers and iphones are working fine on this wireless network.

Each time I lose my network connection, Windows claims that it cannot find any wireless network. I then need to disable the D-Link network adapter and re-enable it to get back my internet connection for a few minutes, hours or days. You can imagine how annoying this is for me now. It uses to work fine a year ago.

Here is the ipconfig stuff if this can help you assist me in fixing this issue.

Hi,

Have you been installing the MS driver updates for your m/c?

As a suggestion,

Go to the HP website & download their driver set for your wireless card.

If you need further assistance in identifying which ones to download, please post the exact make & model for your PC.

The more information you can provide about your system the better! i.e Installed upgraded add-in cards etc. etc.

I am not sure what you mean by m/c?
I just went to the D-Link site and reinstalled the latest driver (2008) for vista 32.
I am not sure what you think I should get from the HP site (I have a HP Pavillion Media Center m8000).

Guess what? I lost again my wireless network connection.
Same behavior (no network found).
I wrongly thought I had fixed the issue by reinstalling the D-Link driver.
Can you help?

Yes I have a D-Link DWA-542 RangeBooster N Desktop Adapter.
As I mentioned, I just reinstalled the adapter driver for Vista 32bit
which seems to have given me more stability with my connection.

What is weird is that the driver I downloaded and installed from the D-link site is dated 2-20-2008 (version 7.4.2.48) and since this install Vista Update has found an update for the driver dated 9-29-2009.
I am reluctant to install the update since I am afraid that this might have caused the problem in the first place.
It is strange that Vista would know of a driver update that is not even on the site of the product...

I can always do the update and if I loose stability I can re-install the 2008 driver. Not sure what to do. Probably wait to see how long I can keep this connection running. Let me know what you think.

    Weakest part of my computer is the graphics chipset. Only ever used a laptop. Also use USB Freeview TV Card Lenovo Docking Station External Speakers Other bits a pieces as needed
I have installed the new driver as you suggested after losing the connection with the original driver.
I still experience the same problem however. I keep the wireless connection for a few weeks and then I lose it and cannot get it to stay on for long download (15 min more). I do not know what to do anymore. Should I byt a new card or change my router.
