Can't connect to printer

I have a home network, all computers have the same work group. A wire connected to router Vista 32 computer cannot connect to a wireless connected Vista x64 computer with a shared printer. The printer is a USB connected HP Deskjet F2200. I can see the printers and I can connect to shared folders on the Vista x64. When I try to connect I get "windows can not connect error 0x00000100"
I have 2 wireless connected Vista 32 computers that can connect and use the Vista x64 printer.

Before starting, there are three models of the HP Deskjet F2200 series - I need to know the specific model.

Also, what type of printer port are you using on the PC that won't connect (USB Virtual Port, LPT, TCP/IP,...)? Is the printer setup with a static IP address? If so, try setting up a TCP/IP port using the printer's IP address instead of using the normal connection wizard and connecting to the printer being shown and see if that helps (in essence, used the advanced method and be sure to complete everything required).

You may also need to install printer drivers for the printer connected to the x64 machine on the PC that isn't connecting as they may be transferring wireless (so the others work) but not doing so with a direct connection (though I honestly don't know why that would happen and don't think it's the problem, but it's worth a try).

What is the manufacturer, make, and model of the router?

If you can, try connecting one of the 32-bit computers that work with the printer by cable to the router (instead of wirelessly - you will probably need to create a connection for that) and see if it still works or if it now has the same problem. I'm trying to see here if it is a problem with the computer having troubles or with the method of connection. That will help us focus attention in the right area.

USB Virtual Port (both)

I tried connecting local port //computername/printer/ and got "access denied"

As I already stated, I have two Vista 32 laptops that connect to the network wirelessly and can print on both of the printers.

I believe it must be a permisions problem, although all computers can see and open shared folders.

If so, try setting up a TCP/IP port using the printer's IP address instead of using the normal connection wizard and connecting to the printer being shown and see if that helps (in essence, used the advanced method and be sure to complete everything required). Did you try this instead of the USB connection? That means using //192.168.0.200 or whatever - not the //computername/printer - but this will only work if the printer has a static IP address.

Did you try installing appropriate printer drivers in the computer that's connected by cable?

If you can, try connecting one of the 32-bit computers that work with the printer by cable to the router (instead of wirelessly - you will probably need to create a connection for that) and see if it still works or if it now has the same problem. I'm trying to see here if it is a problem with the computer having troubles or with the method of connection. That will help us focus attention in the right area. I realize you have two that are connected wirelessly and working. That's my point. I'd like to see if they can still connect if connected to the router by cable instead of using the wireless connection.

I also think it's a permissions problem (or perhaps a connection problem that may or may not be caused by permissions) and these options are attempts to identify where that problem is located.

No and when I try to connect to the printer I get "Access Denied"

I took the HP 950 downstairs and connected it to the printerless computer. I pluged in the USB and turned it on, it immediately found it, installed it, and it worked. I shared it on the network and the computer that I removed it from was able to install it. So vice versa worked fine.

I was able to print to the hp 950 installed on the wired computer from the wire connected laptop.
I uninstalled the HP F2210 and all its software and reinstalled it and was able to print from the wireless laptop BUT I STILL get the same error from the wired computer
I tried to disable the firewall on both computers SAME Error
All computers are running AVG Free 2011
Posted problem on D-link forum they stated not a router problem, it is Virus or Firewall problem
add all permissions to "everyone" on the shared printer computer
updated router firmware
uninstaled and reinstalled wireless adapter on shared printer computer.
Wired prevous wireless computer with shared printer (both wired) SAME ERROR
Installed wireless adapter in wired computer (vice versa) SAME ERROR
Tried installing Vista 32 printer driver for the HP F2210 on the wired computer. Same Error
By process of elimination ploblem lies with the wired connected Vista 32 computer.
Not a hardware problem but a Vista problem, this computer has been recently restored and all of the updates applied there is no third party software on it other than what it came with, AVG 2011 and Adobe reader.

Being a mere mortal, I have run out of ideas and surrender to the superior forces the rule the relm of the Vista Kingdom

I know i'm resurrecting an ancient thread, but it's at the top of the google search list when I search for it so I'll post what worked for me.

Make sure no instance of the printer you are connecting shows up in your printers and devices page.

Open an elevated command prompt. To do this hit start and type 'cmd' in the search bar, right click on cmd.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'.

Once you get that done type

printui /s /t2
. This will open a new window with all of the printer drivers installed on your system, find the one for the printer giving you problems and click 'Remove'.

You will prompted whether you want to remove the drivers or the drivers and packages. Select drivers and packages.

Try connecting again as normal, your computer should now automatically download and install new driver.

Profit!

Hopefully this will save more people from the headaches.
