Unidentified Network; Only Local Access. No Internet Vista?

Hey, I am currently having a @)#()#@ Vista issue where I am only getting PUBLIC ACCESS to my network which consists of 4 computers connecting together with a shared internet source going out to each computer except the Vista machine.

Setup:

(Desktop PC01) Windows 7 Ultimate ~Internet source/ 2 LAN ports (1 shared for internet access throughout network with STATIC IP), other for normal access through network and RDC (Automatically Assign IP)/ Wireless Card (Not in use)~
(Notebook Lap01) Windows 7 Ultimate ~Just wireless access to internet~
Media Center MC01) Windows 7 HP ~Wired LAN/ access to internet~
(Desktop PC02) Windows Vista HP ~This machine only has a LAN port on it and thats the only device connected to it.~

I have a Linksys Router configured to send out wireless and also LAN configured to the Wired Desktops. The notebook is the only thing to use wireless and occasionally my Windows Phone. I have checked that each other computer thats connected is getting internet access, and they are. But when you jump on the vista machine I can connect to each computer on the network and access shared folders and gear etc but cant access the internet.

I think this may have something to do with the computer only having the PUBLIC access, and have tried to change it to HOME-WORK network profile, but have had no luck changing it. The only thing I can change it to is PUBLIC Network or PRIVATE Network, and there is no options to pick what type of network profile you want to connect to.

If anyone has any suggestions and/or fix please, please leave an answer below. If you need any more information on specs of any of the device let me know.

This is because a Public network can be dangerous you need to change it to Private network for Internet Access

Go to start

Control Panel

Network and Internet > Network and Sharing center

then click Customize

and select Private

Enter an Admin Password if UAC Appears

Then Restart your Computer and check the Internet connection

Ok, I have tried that and I have noticed that it will change the Profile from PUBLIC to PRIVATE

but when I do the restart it goes back to the PUBLIC profile?

Your network is Identified so it is placed under Local Connection only, Are you using an Ethernet Cable?

Also Can you click on the X Between your Network and internet this will Diagnose the cause and then please upload a screen shot

Click Reset your Network adapter and see if you get connection

If it still Persists then click on Get a New IP Address

Also Can I ask How are you posting on this forum? (Phone...ETC)

Tried both of those ways as well. Acquired the new IP settings/ address, done a restart. Still nothing. Then did the reset, and a restart and still nothing..

Very interesting.... :huh:

Okay Follow these Steps and Be warned you computer will restart after you have run it


Flush DNS Cache and restore HOSTS file

Copy and paste the following into notepad and save it as a batch file (.bat)
@Echo on
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1
del %0


Then run this batch file as an administrator.


Your Computer will Restart after it has Run Also the File will be Deleted after your Computer has Restarted

EDIT: If the steps confuse you then I can make the File and you to run it as Administrator

Ok tried that, Ran as admin for that bat file. The Pc did the auto restart and look promising for a couple of seconds but than came up with no internet access and still unidentified with public access.

Also this OS was only installed toady about 4-5 hours ago, and the only thing installed was the drivers form the Motherboard DVD.

Okay it makes sense now you don't have any Drivers for you Hardware if has been installed today and only Motherboard drivers

How are you Posting on this forum? You need internet connection

No, the drivers are all loaded. And have been updated. I can get access to my network through my vista machine, and share files and access resources through it as well.

Currently I'm on my first desktop with Windows 7 ultimate.

Its fairly weird, all the other computers running Windows 7 will connect to the internet and browse ok, but the vista machine wont even let the network through.

Also i might add that I have no AV on the system, its just OOB condition, and the only thing I have loaded on are the drivers!

Could you try Booting in Safe mode with networking

This will only load core drivers

I have been able to solve the issue sort of by going through a 3rd party program and a wireless USB dongle. What I did was installed a program Connectify which shares out your chosen NIC and sends it through your wireless card as a secured wireless network. Still would rather it go through the router and LAN Cable and that, but is good for now.. The programs not real stable either but is a good work around for a bit!

After struggling with this problem for hours, I finally found a fix for my situation, which was this:

Internal PC connected to firewall via wireless. Firewall then connected to cable modem/router provided by Wide Open West.

In order to get this connection working, I had to manually configure the metric for the interface in IPV4 advanced properties, and set it to <2>, rather than the default <automatic>. Once this was done, the connection worked right away.
