Internet Randomly Disconnect

Hey, I'm trying to download a file from a private server which is about 16 GB. Undoubtedly, this takes very long, and I usually leave my computer to do its thing while I'm at school, but the internet randomly disconnects and the download won't resume. I diagnose and repair the internet and it comes up with

1. plug a cable into the network adapter "local area connection* 10"
2. Move your computer to another loaction (or something like that)
3. Automatically get a new IP.

This is getting very irritating and it happens around 37% and 25% of my file. Any help would be great

Thank you! I might be, my computer has the ability too, but it is connected to the modem through a wire (I'm a computer noob.) If I am on wireless, how would I switch to using the cable rather than wireless.

Oh never mind, on my connect a network it says wireless, and when I push the arrow next to show and push dial-up and vpn, nothing shows. So I'm guessing I'm on wireless.

Hello bmeng,

If you are connected wireless, than there is the possibility of your router's signal dropping out and stopping the download.

Try going to your Network Connections, found in your Control Panel, disabling your wireless adapter, enabling your Ethernet adapter, and downloading the file via the Ethernet connection.

Well I guess my control panel is a little different? I googled how to enable it, and it turn out that my local area connection is not even there. (I went to control pane -> Network and Sharing Center -> Manage network connections. Any reason why this would happen. Thanks Americano for the help

Hello bmeng,

Interesting. The only reason I would think that it would be missing from the list is a missing driver. Try re-installing the drivers for both your local and wirless connections.

You can do this through the Device Manager.

So, you're saying it does work and you're hard wired to a modem and occasionally, when you come home for instance,
you've seen that the connection was dropped?
And, it won't resume the download automatically.

It sounds like the box, maybe went into hibernation and when it came out, it wasn't
able to obtain a new lease.

After the computer turns on, even though the download wouldn't resume automatically, are you able to connect to the internet?

(The dial up and vpn wouldn't show up if you're connected to a cable modem.
Or unless you have specifically set that functionality up for a dial up access and also
set up a virtual private network.
I think you were in Control Panel>select from the right side>Control Panel Home>Network and Internet Options>

this will open a window Internet Properties now select the Connections tab.)
