No Incoming Connection displayed when setting up VPN

I'm trying to set up a VPN between home and my wife's small business. After I complete the wizard to set up an Incoming Connection on the computer at her work, there is no Incoming Connection icon listed in the Network Connections - just the LAN connection is still listed. Any pointers?

Is the router you are using setup to allow incoming traffic from whatever port the VPN is using?

no - this is the first time setting up a vpn between her office and home. There are only 2 computers involved - the main office one and her laptop. At work, she connects to a wireless network - she wants to be able to do what she does there, but at home.

Hi,

Do you know for sure you are allowed to do this? It may be that your wife's office firewall blocks the required TCP and UDP ports. However, if you are sure you are allowed to do this, then the issue probably lies at your end of the connection. Even if you are allowed to do this, it may be that the firewall is incorrectly configured. See if anyone else is able to connect.

From your previous posts I am unable to completely ascertain what you want to do using this VPN.
Are you planning on using it for file sharing or remote desktop or something else? If your VPN settings are still not working even with your firewall (Windows, Antivirus and Router firewalls) configured correctly on both ends I would consider trying an alternative solution such as Windows Live Mesh which allow secure remote desktop and file sharing over the Internet as long as you have a windows live ID (which you can sign up for for free using your current email address).

My wife has a client-server app - the server is hosted on her office computer and she has a client installed on her laptop. When she is at the office she can connect to the app using the wireless network. She wants to be able to connect to the app from home - the software app support team recommend a vpn as the best way of achieving this.

I am using the following instructions:

Windows Vista PPTP VPN server Mini How-To

When I try to set up an "Incoming Connection" on the office computer, I step through the wizard and everything seems to work fine except after completing the wizard, there is no "Incoming Connection" listed in the Network Connections - see image in the attached file for what it should like. The only thing I see is the LAN connection.

I would recommend starting again from scratch using the tutorial on the seven forums (for some reason there isn't one on the vista forums but it should be the same on Vista) to setup your VPN here and here for your connection to your VPN from your remote computer. I have glanced over it and compared it to the one you have been using and there seams to be a couple of minor differences. Also I would appreciate knowing what make your wireless router is; have you definitely opened the correct ports on it to allow VPN incoming and outgoing traffic?

I think this sounds like a Firewall issue, possibly at your end. What Firewalls are you using, and make sure these ports are open:

TCP 1194
UDP 1194
