help with solution of 64 bit internet problems

I have alot of problems with my internet connection
My computer says that Im connected but
either the connection has timed out, web page has expired and
internet cannot display web page etc. you name it
this happens when Im trying to get in
and have not had time to time out??? ore expire???
this is a new computer??? is there a setting or something that needs turned
off? I have searched forever for a solution

Please help me

See if you are being assigned an ip address.
If yes, try to ping a number address (e.g., ping 128.163.1.6)
If that works, try an alpha address (ping Yahoo!)

Im having the same issues as the person that posted this with my 64 bit system and I saw your response but I dont understand it. Where do this I type this information or look for the solution.

start>search>type cmd>ipconfig /all>

Is there a number assigned to you like 192.168.1.1?

in the command window type ping yahoo.com and note the results.

Tell us the results of these

ok...I was able to do the comand and it says ip routing enabled: no ...it has a lot of # put none that start with 192 etc..Im not sure were to look.. and I cant paste what it has.????

That tells me that you have connectivity, who your ISP is, you are getting an IP, rtv

ok..good..now what happens is I will be on the internet and my connection always interrupts. My pages take forever to load, all my downloades either take forever or get stuck halfway there, ill will be on a website and the screen will freeze and state that an internet connection could not be found...its endless and I called my internet provider and we tested upload and downloads and everything is fine. All this started when I bought a new computer with 64bit home prem. vista before I had xp and everything connected great and download super quick.

If your ISP says everything is fine maybe thats all they can give you. what did they isp say that your speed should be?

to check you speed go to speednet.net and run a test

that what I dont understand it why is happening with my new system ..well I did a test and is
File Size 600.005 KB Time Elapsed 0.091 seconds

and is there a specific modem I should have?

actually windows 64 bit is a problem, even i got the same prob, the network sucks, takes ages to load simple pages there is no prob with the isp provider its 64 bit vista problem

Im suprised I dont read about it more often with other people thats why I was trying to figure out if it was my internet service but I didnt think so since when I has my xp system everthing was perfect. I wonder if there is anything I could do?
