I had the rev. A version of this router for over a year working fine and it started having random disconnects so I assumed it possibly was failing so I ordered another one since it had served it's purpose well and figured overheating might be the reason for the failing.
The new one I recieved from Newegg was the later revision b with the latest firmware. After initial hookup all was fine until the next day and the disconnects and massive internet slow downs started with alot more frequency that the previous router. I have called D-link's tech support twice and they have had me switch some settings and re-apply the firmware and even had me choose a slower speed which cut my internet speed in half(I changed this setting back to original)...none of which has helped.
I can surf the net for a few minutes then I all of the sudden get sub 56k speeds for like a minute and even get the IE message to diagnose the problem. My ISP is Comcast and I have the 16mbps speed for reference.
Is there a setting in the router setup I am missing? I have used the install disk and I have just done it without the disk manually and all works great for a few minutes and then the problem creeps back.
The D-link forums are full of people with the same problem and not one solution has been posted anywhere. This product worked fine for quite some time then all the sudden which brings me back to the original Linksys router I bought and it was fine for a week then all the sudden mass amounts of people across the US started having connectivity issues with that very same router...no solution was ever found as far as I read but I returned that router right away and went with D-link instead.
My Motorola surfboard modem will show a solid connection when I am having connectivity issues and when plugged directly into the modem I have no problems at all so it is a router issue and I believe I have exhausted D-link's tech support since they have no idea what they are doing in the first place..and like I have done with many other products that outsource their support centers...this will be my last D-link product.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be or what settings might need to be adjusted to eliminate this issue? I am currently sharing my connection with 2 other PC's here but when I move I will no longer need a router which will be a great day of joy for me since routers seem to have too many issues.
Any ideas are welcome!
