Quoted, i have same exact problem.
Working on a Dell laptop (no, it hasn't exploded, yet :-)
An Inspiron 1300 with built in LAN, Wireless USB, modem, etc. as usual.
It has an odd fault:
The LAN connection drops out and in constantly.
I get a message : "A network cable is unplugged"
followed by "LAN is now connected"
on a cycle of about 5 seconds.
The LAN socket has 2 LEDS which they flicker oddly on, then off (which seems clearly faulty.)
What I have tried :
* not allowing laptop to disable NIC to save power
* re-installing NIC drivers
* disabling and re-enabling the NIC
* disabling the modem (nearby)
* Windows updates
* power or battery
* using another NIC (USB to LAN)
* different cables
* wiggling the connection
None of this has fixed it. formating hasn't either.
I did get it to work correctly for a few hours (power disable of NIC seemed to be the culprit the first time) but the fault returned (when I took it back to the client - grrr..)
Now it just will not work right at all, no matter what I try.
Has anyone seen such a fault?
Any suggestions?
This is just so random becuase i have no more ideas, formating was my last resort and i figured with replacing the nic card it would be for surly fixed, but i still have the problem, Im connected with a WIRE connection on a school network (university) and ive had 3 roommates plug there computers into my ethernet cable, and they are just fine, no problems at all. Does anyone have any ideas at all that i havent tried yet?
