Solved Conection speed is slow need help
Well every every once in awhile my speed drops to half of what it is suppose to be. I pay for 5meg but it drops to 2200kbps. I have my Actiontec M1000 that feed a Linksys wireless router. When the problem was there I had the router unplugged and it still did it. Qwest says I'm getting the speed but several bench test say other wise. They finally said the modem was at fault I replaced it yesterday and still does it. what could I be missing. Is it my service or something else? I have ran several virus software cleaned cookies and updated the firmware in the modem with no luck.

Hello Venom,
You might see if this may be part of the issue below.
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/72308-auto-tuning-tcp-ip-receive-level.html
However, I would also keep hounding on Qwest to help you resolve either this hardware, software, or setting issue since this is what you are paying them for each month. If need be, they can send a tech to your house to check what may be wrong at your end.
Hope this helps,
Shawn

I have a similar problem, at best i can download files at a fairly decent 200kbps, but sometimes it just plummets to somewhere ranging from less than half of that, to barely 10kbps, then barely even 1! Right now its doing it at about 50k but i reckon that a 10mbps connection should be churning out probably not all the 1 and a bit mbps it can, but probably at least 800k
I use PPPoe (or whatever its called) broadband connection
could be the vista basic OS, but if and when i can afford it ill get the premium upgrade
any help will be appreciated

I was played around with it last night after brink gave me some help after power cycling the modem it was back up to 4400kbps. It worked all day and then when I went to watch a Movie on my Xbox with netflix it dropped about 3/4 way through the movie. I shut down the 360 and ran the speed test and it was 1500kbs. Is this the modem? If so whats a good modem to get to replace it?

Hi Venom,
I would check with your internet provider to see what they recommend that would be best to work with their equipment. A ISP may not support some modems.

Well some websites will be faster and slower than others depending on their bandwith. If you have broadband cable, then you also have the shared usage issue with the speed dropping some during peak hours when there is a lot of people online in your area at the same time.
You might also request that Qwuest send someone out to check to see if there may be a issue with the connection at your end somewhere.
