On my wife's laptop running Vista home premium, I noticed that it was downloading an update at an abnormally slow rate. I stopped the update and performed a speed test; the laptop is getting consistently between 128 and 300 kbps or so, whether it is connected via LAN cable, or Wireless connection. I hooked up my Desktop's NIC to the same cable, and it is getting a consistent 3000 kbps. I thought perhaps she had a rogue process, so I checked her task manager's performance monitor, all looks nominal, and it shows no network traffic when idling. What are some of the things that could cause such a slow-down, when other computers on the network perform so much better under the same conditions? Please let me know if I can provide any further information to help us figure this out. Thank you.
