I have a Vista Home Primium computer on my home network. I noticed that i cannot connect to it from my other Windows xp computers yet from my vista computer i can connect to the WinXP computers.
In looking into this further i realized that i cannot even ping my own ip address from the vista machine or any other machine on the network. However i can ping the loopback address 127.0.0.1.
I have so far tried disabling the windows firewall reinstalled network card drivers disabling IPV6 support within the dapter checked all ip configuration settings and ensured all computers are on the same workgroup and all seems to be ok.
Other Info:
From the new network control panel I am running a private network with sharing and no password required. Also i run several virtual machine from this vista computer with microsoft vitual pc and they all have full network access.
Something strange:
I found in the network connections windows i have an additional adapter called windows loopback adapter which does not have an ip address or manage to obtain one i can disable it but not uninstall it.
I have never had any trouble like this before vista i think i must be missign something if any one has any idea i would greatly appreciate any support before i format.

Have you perchance disabled any services on Vista, such as Simple TCP Services, or else are you running a local firewall that may be blocking incoming requests (such as ICMP)?

I do not have any other firewalls running on the computer. But yes i have disabled services in the past but nothing that i think would cause this i also had another look and nothing network related is disabled is there a specific service i should look for.
