I have a Dell computer with Vista Home Basic. On many web-sites I can enter my user name and password and the computer remembers them. On one site I have had to change my user name. I deleted the old name - I think by right clicking on my mouse. I cannot however see how to reinsert a new user name. Usually if I am inserting a new user name on a new site I am visiting the computer comes up automatically with a note "would you like the computer to remember this". I would appreciate any help to be able to find the right controls to do this on the computer.
Any help appreciated.
Many thanks
Roger
Re: How can I organise a user name and password to come up automatically on my comput
Hi Roger and welcome to the Vista forums.
Open control panel, go to User Accounts. Click on Manage your network passwords. There you can add new accounts and passwords or edit and delete existing accounts.

Many thanks for this - most helpful. Can I trouble you with a supplementary. On one of my sites (our public library) there are three members of the family with a user number and a password. I have inserted my own quite satisfactorily but cannot put in anybody else. I seem to recall from some little while ago (although it might have been XP and not Vista) that when I clicked on the user name I got three reference numbers up and could choose the appropriate person. Any further help if this is possible appreciated.
Many thanks
Roger

Re: How can I organise a user name and password to come up automatically on my comput

I think I do mean 3 users with 3 separate passwords. Let me to explain the site as best I can (I am not in my first flush of youth!!). Our local library has a website you can enter using your user name (in this case a number) and a password. Three members of my family belong so they would each have a different number and different password. They would all however log on to the site via this computer. Hope this helps and explains the position.
Roger
PS there is also a message from Johngalt - I was not quite clear whether this was to you or to me.
Re: How can I organise a user name and password to come up automatically on my comput
Roger,
OK, then what happens if you add the 2 other user/password in the network passwords management?
I have to say that i never tried to do so on the same user account in Vista.
Normally, when you visit a site needing a user/password, if the datas are stored in your network passwords you are prompted to validate the username and the password with the "remember" ticked. If you untick this option your user/password will be deleted. That means that to change the user/password if you have more than one registered, you have to reboot as on the same session the last user/password will log automatically....
I am not sure it is very clear

Re: How can I organise a user name and password to come up automatically on my comput
Hi John,
Maybe, i am not really sure because i did not test but if the credentials are for the same page the user/password could be modify instead of added as new????
Re: How can I organise a user name and password to come up automatically on my comput
Gentlemen
Many thanks for all your help.
What I now have is the ability to store in the computer the three different user names or in fact library reference numbers of users. Although in each case I typed in the different passwords the computer does not appear to store any of them. I am not too disappointed however and pleased that the user names are remembered.
Regards
Roger
Re: How can I organise a user name and password to come up automatically on my comput
Hi Roger,
Glad it works half way
I personally use this program for all my passwords/Users and it works great, many other features, a must: RoboForm: Password Manager, Form Filler, Password Management
The free version is limited in features but could be enough for your needs.
Re: How can I organise a user name and password to come up automatically on my comput
Sid
Many thanks for this and your previous help.
I have downloaded the free version and as you say it is probably enough for my needs [indeed it will take time to master!]. Who knows however perhaps in due course I will need the "Professional".
I would post a smiley for you but I am on the quick reply which does not seem to have them.
Enjoy the rest of your day
Roger

My last reply was some 12 minutes ago.
I have now started to use the RoboForm and it is fantastic. I could be getting the "Professional" earlier rahter than later.
My thanks again.
Roger
