Suddenly all text is jagged, clear type is turned on, so what gives?

I woke up this morning to find that all of my Windows Vista fonts are suddenly jagged and nearly illegible. I've puttered around in my fonts settings -- clear text is turned on, I've changed settings and restarted, I checked my graphics card driver, checked my monitor settings, checked my browser settings... everything is right and tight, what's supposed to be turned on is turned on, etc. In fact, any changes I noodle about with just make it worse (i.e. fiddling with the browser font settings).

I can't screenshot my excel or word docs because of the info contained therein, but they're just as bad or worse than that google screenshot. I have such a headache from looking at the screen and I have no clue what's going on.
Does anyone have any ideas? Please help. :(

Looks normal to me. Tried tweaking your View > Encoding (Character Encoding in Firefox) settings?

I have the same issue this morning. Blurry fonts in search results for Google, in some programs, in FireFox browser, other places. I had 15 updates this morning for Vista and noticed after the updates. I do not know if it was before as I booted the computer for the day and saw updates available (no automatic install, just advise me they are available). I do not know if it was the updates.

I did a Google search on keywords "Windows Vista blurry fonts" and got hits on fixing the vista cleartypes and others ideas. Nothing worked. I then searched same keywords using past 24 hours time restriction and found this topic in this forum and registered to post a reply.

I may have to back them off one by one and see if that was the cause.

If it is updates that caused it, then there should be more users with same issue.

My image appears to have been compressed upon uploading so you really can't see just how bad it is. Bah.

rsm711-- I think it's something to do with the recent updates. I did all the same things as you (ClearType tuning, encoding, font settings, etc). I noticed I had a slew of Windows & Office updates installed overnight. By whatever luck, yesterday I happened to set an updated restore point so I just went ahead rolled back the entire last round of Windows & Microsoft Office updates.

Lo and behold, I have beautiful smooth aliased text again. I'm sorry but I didn't troubleshoot which update it was. I'm too happy to have staved off the migraine, and lost too much time messing about with this on a workday.

Removing that update solved the problem.

Apparently the issue has been reported to Microsoft and a new patch will be made. So avoid installing the bad update above. Turn off auto updates from Microsoft for now and just have advise of updates and manually update which updates get installed (exclude the bad one) until this issue is fixed.

I got the same thing 2 days ago. Here is a copy attached. Would someone know how to fix this, or to undo a vista update?

Uninstalling Microsoft security update KB3013455 was the culprit.
