Solved BIOS display on the wrong screen

Hi,
im not sure if im in the right thread, sorry if im in the wrong place.

PC Speccs:
- Vista Home Premium x64
- Service Pack 2
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 card (has connections for 2 screens)
- NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 onboard (correct me if this isnt possible)
- HDMI card

My workflow at the moment:
- PC monitor connected to my pc (identify screen number 4) MAIN MONITOR
- 52inch TV connected to my pc with HDMI (identify screen 1)

The problem:
When i boot my system, the BIOS screen is displayed on my TV (even when my desktop isnt extended to my TV). After the boot when the system hits the windows logo it switches automaticly to my Pc monitor.

All fine and well when nothing is wrong, but when he refuses to boot after lets says a wrong logoff i had to turn my tv on and switch modes to see what the problem is.


My question:
Is there an option to let the BIOS startup beeing displayed on my PC monitor?



Extra info's:
- I cant switch connections, TV has to be HDMI and PC has to be VGA.
- The 2 outputs on my GTX 260 are beeing identified as monitor 3 & 4.
- Dont ask me how i have 4 monitors because i only have 3 outputs in the back (?)
- Their are only 2 monitors active at all times, so number 2 & 3 you can forget about those numbers.

It's how the computer display adapters are listed out. And yes it's correct having 4 outputs.

The computer is spitting out the display adapter of the hdmi as #1, and will always display that output first if connected. Even though it's not on, so as long as you have the hdmi plugged in, the computer sense its an active connection.

If you give me somemore system info, I can get more specific.

So aslong as my HDMI is connected to my PC the BIOS display will always be displayed on the HDMI connected screen?

Already opended up the pc to see if i can switch my HDMI card lower on the motherboard if that would help with my problem, but that's off the table because i cant.

Can you be more specific on what system info you want?

Whatever you have selected for primary screen, when you click the Identify on your video resolution, you will get a gigantic 1 on your primary monitor.

To get there, right click on an empty space on your desktop, select Screen Resolution.

Then click on Identify button.

The 1 is where your bios screen will show.

My HDMI output seems to be #1.
But i dont want it to be #1, is it possible to change that?

Any option that would allow the user to identify the monitors numbers?

Screen Resolution, click on Identify button. The numbers on the screens tell you which one is which.

Under Display Settngs there should be a place to click to set 'This is my Main Monitor.'

I dont know if this well help explaining the problem.
Screen 4 = pc screen (VGA)
Screen 1 = tv (hdmi)

Even tho screen 4 is my main monitor, the bios boot screen will still display on screen number 1.

Options?

know your problem, so its not gonna help me, BUT can you get a picture of your pc's back, along with the cables plugged in.

What I'm saying is youre sadly stuck with how it is most likely, due to how the pc assigns the resources.

Yes, whichever screen the computer sees as number 1 is where the BIOS screen will show.

Doh,its a Dellianware... Not exactly standard cookie cutter.

You have 2 seperate video cards i see, a 260 and a 220.

Okay in the bios, Alienware should have left it stock p5n-d, you can find the setting to switch whichn display is primary boot,. Ikts page 4-26 (92/164) of the manual found here:
ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS P5N-D

You should be able to select the slot the 260s in.

Primary Display Adaptor ... found it!
It stood on [PCI-E] and i switched it to [PCI].

Did not work tho, nothing changed strangly enough.

Do you have the 260 in the top slot? It should be the primary slot on the board.

"If you're willing to experiment, we can try." with that in the back off my head, i opened up my pc. I wasnt sure if i could switch both cards because my GTX260 really takes up all the space, but it just works.

The pc now identifies my pc screen (vga) as screen #1.
And my Tv screen (hdmi) as screen #3.

With that said, my bios screen finally shows up on my pc screen!
