Computer won't do 1280x720 on external monitor via VGA

My computer is a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5000 Laptop and when i try to connect it to my tv the only resolutions that show up that the tv can support are 1024x768 and 800x640. The TV manual states that using the VGA connection, the supported resolutions are 640x480, 720x400, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x720, 1280x768, and 1360x768 but none of the resolutions above 1024x768 show up as a resolution i can change it to. The computer's display is of 16:10 format, could this be why 16:9 resolutions don't show up as an option and is there any way that i can force the graphics card to display 1280x720?

Hi jetblue1085,

Try updating your graphics card drivers. When I installed my new card, the resolution on my monitor would not go to it's max. After updating, it was fine. I realise it's a slightly different situation, but give it a shot.
