Thinkpad z61m running Vista Business goes to a pink screen after normal login. Tried safe mode and it brings up blank black screen with safe mode in all four corners. Hooked up external monitor and it displays same pink screen. Safe mode loading one driver at a time ends up the same. Ran Norton and everything scanned okay. HDD seems to be doing fine. In other words, it appears all is well but I just can't see the desktop. Oddly the laptop function keys to start the external monitor or to bring up the wireless mgt interface or to eject a device work fine and these interfaces pop up over the top of the pink screen as if nothing is wrong. Also I can start the PC and go directly into Thinkvantage rescue recovery and use Opera browser. I am typing from the PC right now and the display looks great. It only bombs to pink when I login into Vista. Not sure if I can apply driver updates while not logged into Vista but going to try. I believe it has an Nvidia video card but can't get into Vista to confirm and hardware summary under rescue recovery does not detail.
In that rare air where it appears this isn't a serious enough problem to require reload O/S and not even sure that would resolve but can't use PC unless I can make progress. Any ideas appreciated.
