New card needs power supply

I have just bought a PCS HD 4850 graphics card to replace my old one; Hp GeForce 8400Gs 256Mb HDMI Video Card 5188-8905
Chipset: Nvidia
Model: GeForce 8400Gs

The new card has a 6 pin power plug socket. I can't find a power plug in my base unit ( HP A6000) to connect to the new card. Any ideas please.

If you do not have one, you will need to upgrade your power supply to one which has.

Ok, not being conversant with pc power upgrades can you give me an idea of what this involves or would i be better changing the card for one not requiring its own power supply?

My graphics card also requires a 6-pin auxilary power connection, which I haven't got on my PSU. However, the card also came with an adapter to convert a pair of Molex connectors from the PSU to the 6-pin connector as required by the card. If you haven't got such a connector, or there isn't one supplied with the card, you should be able get one from your local computer hardware shop.

You will, of course, need to ensure that your PSU meets or exceeds the power requirement of the card and that it has a pair of Molex connectors free. If not, you will need a replacement PSU, in which case you should get one with the necessary connectors.

They make adapters, as shown,
But odds are you will need a new psu. you need about 450W psu, so you really need to pop open the case and see whats in there now.
